Welcome to Cotswold Veldrijden (pronounced vél-traiden) our exciting race team.
We have brought together riders from the local Cotswold area to create a race team. The club started as a cyclocross race team but the ethos of the team soon began attracting riders from every age group and discipline. We now have now riders who also race Road, Time Trials, Mountain Bikes and track. Our youngest members are 5 and our oldest is 80!
We enjoy the club feel of supporting each other, we compete in the local Wessex League CX are able to field riders in all categories, we all pit crew for each other during races, share lifts to events and share equipment, we have riders of all abilities, it’s not all about winning, although that’s nice and we love it when we do, it’s about getting people to ride and race their bikes.
We organise races, regular coaching sessions, turbo training sessions and this year we are introducing a sportive. We are a non-profit team everything we make we reinvest back into the riders and the team, to enable everyone to get involved and race.
Our Ethos is simple come and race and come and help out so others can race!
With several national champions, the Club has a strong heritage in Cyclocross, this being the discipline upon which the Club was formed. Well respected throughout the region and the country, there is a multitude of support for those wanting to get involved.
Most Tuesday evenings have structured Cyclocross training sessions as well as regular opportunities to race in several regional and national events.
The support and comradery in the club is fantastic with several members taking part and helping others on race days.
Cotswold Veldrijen are proud members of The Cotswold Road Race League which plays host to some of the most competitive Road Racing in the region. Made up of 8-10 cycling clubs with 6 riders per team it provides a great opportunity for those wanting to compete on a regular basis.
Club members also race throughout the country in British Cycling affiliated Crit and Road Races with some very talented young riders coming through the ranks including a National Junior Champion.
Most Wednesday’s and Friday’s the club hold chain gang and sprint training sessions from 6.30pm which are great for developing race speed and power.
The Club have several members who compete on the track, including a National Masters champion and an elite national level sprinter.
For those wanting to get involved with Track cycling, the Club hosts regular coaching sessions at Newport Velodrome. Our two track coaches are always happy to provide tips and advice to those starting out. Hire bikes are available in these sessions for those who need them.
As a spring board to success in the many disciplines of the sport the club offers a great foundation to all young cyclists from 5+. Mini Racers coaching sessions are held 4 weeks on two weeks off throughout the year.
Sessions are mostly held on grass and taken by club members who are British Cycling affiliated coaches. The children learn how to race and ride together and how to handle their bikes within a friendly and encouraging cycling community.
Time Trials are a traditional entry point for competitive cycling, from April to September the club take part in a weekly Time Trial Club Series with other Swindon based clubs held at the Latton TT course between Cricklade and Cirencester.
Throughout the year there are also number of ‘Come and try it’ events’ aimed at encouraging people new to the sport to come and give it a go.
In addition to this the Club take part in Team Time Trial events throughout the year and hold practice sessions on some Wednesday evenings during the summer.
There are 2 classes of membership; Adult, Seniors and Under 16’s.
We are also working towards Clubmark and we are a British Cycling go-ride accredited club.
